Date Night Ideas

Hey guys!  So this is a random post but I wanted to share some fun date night ideas with you!  This is a short list of our favorite things that we actually do a lot, rather than a really long list of random things that we have never done that you might see if you google “date night ideas” lol ie: apple picking, cooking class, couples massage. It is important for Kohl and I (and everyone!) to unplug and go on a fun date every now and then.  We don’t have children yet, so we are trying to set a habit/routine to keep going for when that time comes.  I love going to dinner and a movie, but sometimes it’s fun to switch it up!  Here are some ideas when you want to do something a little different and have a fun date night/day with your boo.

Brewery/Winery: There are so many cool breweries around to go and taste different kinds of beer or wine.  Usually places have tours which is fun to walk around and learn about and most offer yummy food to try too.  Who doesn’t like relaxing and unwinding over a few drinks with their honey? 🙂

Mini Golf: Going to play mini golf is so fun!  We are both really competitive, so our games can get intese lol, but we always laugh so much and have a blast.

Dave & Busters/Arcade: For one of our date nights not that long ago we went to Dave & Busters and had such a great time!  We went to Cheesecake Factory for dinner first (food is always a must for us lol) and then we played games for a couple hours.  We used to go here or to Boomers when we were younger and dating and would always have fun.  After a few years of marriage, that has not changed!  It takes us back and makes us feel like kids again.  We had a blast and want to go back soon.

Make dinner and dessert together and watch a movie/play video games: This sounds so simple but we did this not that long ago and it was such a fun night!  We made pizza together and had fun getting creative with the toppings and just relaxing together after a long week.  Sometimes staying in is the way to go.  And also playing Mario Party is pretty fun lol.

Disneyland or Theme Park (but Disneyland lol): Ok you knew this one was coming!  Lol but there are fun ways you can make this date special and different.  Sometimes we make a reservation at a nice restaurant in the park and watch a show.  Sometimes we will try a ton of different seasonal snacks.  This is somewhere we go often but there are times we make them “special” Disney dates.

Hiking: We don’t do this as often as we would like to but we both love hiking and seeing beautiful places!  There are a lot of nice trails near us and it’s fun to leave our phones and take Daisy along and just walk and talk and enjoy nature together.

Go to a coffee shop and plan our next vacation: We love talking about and planning our trips, it helps us look forward to something.  It’s fun to sit down with the laptop and research all the restaurants we want to go to, things we want to see and do on our vacation.

I would love to hear what your favorite date nights are!

How to Stay Organized

So the upcoming seasons hold a lot for most people, and it can be overwhelming planning, scheduling and remembering your commitments all while staying organized.  It happens every year for me, almost every weekend and at least a couple week nights get booked up every month.  Keeping track of all those events along with Dr. appointments, work meetings and events, little unexpected things that pop up, ya da ya da, you know… life stuff, can be super overwhelming and stressful!

I have put together a list to help you stay organized so you can enjoy the wonderful times that fall and winter hold.

  1. Buy a planner/calendar and WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN-This is the most important tip that has greatly helped me the past few years.  Yes, I know a lot of people use the calendars in their phones and type notes, but having everything written down and seeing the whole month at a time makes remembering and planning for things so much easier, trust me.  You can write down your events on the days, as well as to do lists and any extra things like a daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule.  I love my Happy Planner from Me & My Big Ideas.  It is the perfect size, and has a super cute design with bible verses and inspiration on every page.  Oh, and it also comes with stickers! Here is the link to my planner The Happy Planner
  2. Give everything a home and practice putting things away immediately- There is nothing more stressful than looking for something important that you know you have and not being able to find it.  Make designated boxes or drawers for important paperwork, dedicate one shelf or spot to presents you are giving so you can have them all in one place, and de clutter frequently.  Also, when you come home with something, before you get into your sweats and sit on that couch with that bowl of popcorn (this is a hard one for me) just put the dang thing where its supposed to go!  Don’t just throw it on the bed, to be thrown on the coffee table, to be shoved under the coffee table, to be forgotten about/lost!
  3. Set a monthly budget and stick to it, and when you buy something, yes, WRITE IT DOWN in your planner so you can keep track and not go over your budget.  I like to write down what I need to purchase and calculate that, and if there is extra to spend, I save it or get something that I want, but always always write everything down so you can stay on top of your spending.
  4. Get rid of stuff you don’t need/use/wear-Before you get something new, try to get rid of something as well.  This helps eliminate clutter and unneeded things.  I love the feeling of getting rid of crap that I don’t need, it’s invigorating! LOL
  5. Simplify your life by not over committing and jam packing your schedule- Sometimes many commitments are unavoidable, especially during the busy holiday months.  I am guilty of spreading myself too thin sometimes and it leads to stress.  It’s ok to say no to something and postpone or move things around to accommodate your schedule.  It is very important to take time for yourself to just relax.  During fall and winter time, the changing weather+stress=lowered immune system which=getting sick…yeah I know that was a funky equation haha but it’s true!  I have learned this from experience.  Take a deep breath, de clutter, organize, and ENJOY the wonderful months ahead and take time for yourself to relax and be with your loved ones!

My Tried and True Workout Clothes

If I don’t have a cute and comfortable outfit to wear to the gym, I’m probably not gonna go lol.  If I have a few really cute pieces that suck everything in and make me feel good while I’m working out, it helps get me there.

First let’s have some #realtalk.  Last night I destroyed a box of milk duds, but ya know what?  I’m giving myself some grace and starting the day over by focusing on putting healthier things in my body and taking little steps to be better every day.  Sometimes weeks go by that I don’t go to the gym and let’s be real, I hate going.  But I love the feeling I have afterwards, so I am trying to focus on that feeling.  If you are struggling to workout regularly, I feel you!  Let’s motivate each other and give ourselves grace.  We’ve got this!  I just wanted to throw that little bit of inspiration in there haha anyways let’s get on with the post…

This post is dedicated to workout clothes I own that I have been wearing for a really long time.  I LOVE wearing cute workout clothes even if I’m not going to workout.  The athleisure trend is one that I really love. These pieces have held up and are my tried and true clothes to wear to the gym and on days where I’m just lounging or running errands.  I don’t have $98 to spend on one pair of leggings or have 10 different pairs of Adidas, but there are some really cute, comfortable, flattering, and affordable pieces that I think you will love!  Also, a lot of my picks are from Old Navy…shocking right lol.  Right now, you can save 30% off your entire order with the code THANKYOU

There is a shoppable link with all of my favorite workout clothes at the end of this post!

Why I’m Not Taking a Very Successful Blogger’s Advice

Hey guys!  So I wanted to do some #RealTalk with you today.

So I am going to explain that title in a little bit, but first I wanted to say that I have been blogging for almost a year.  I started it as a hobby to share my love for makeup, food, fashion, and travel.  Now that I am almost one year in, I realize how much I love blogging and making videos, and that my goal is to have it be my career someday.  I am nowhere near my ultimate goal, but I am hitting small goals every week and most importantly, I am having a BLAST and meeting some really cool people!  I am working really hard on growing my following/community on here, Instagram, and YouTube, but I am not just focusing on gaining followers, readers, and subscribers.  I am genuinely wanting to help people and share with the world, because I feel like I have a lot to offer. I think everyone does, and if you want to blog, make videos, start an Instagram, or share your passions in any other kind of way, you should!  The social media world is so heavily saturated with people with similar goals as me, so it’s really easy to get discouraged.  I was so scared to start my blog because I was afraid to be judged or come off like a wannabe, but I am so glad that I did.  I have met girls that have helped me, and who I have been able to help.  If I can help or inspire one person, it’s worth it.  And if you are just starting out, it is so easy to play the comparison game and try to be like or better than someone else.

A couple of weeks ago, I asked a VERY successful blogger on Instagram for some advice, and I was first of all really surprised that she even responded to me.  I asked her about choosing a niche and if you should start by focusing on one or two major topics before branching out to others, and just general advice for a beginning blogger.  I was kinda surprised and disappointed with her answer.

She told me, “In order to be successful in this industry, you either need to have a lot of money, or be better than your competitors, or both.”

Now, I can understand that response from a business point of view, which this definitely is a business to her.  But it still didn’t sit right with me, oh well.

You need to focus on quality content and building a genuine audience.  You need to be your true and authentic self, because there is no one else like you, and your brand and audience will grow, which is advice an even more successful blogger gave to me a few days ago.

Everyone is unique and has a totally different set of skills and experiences.  I am guilty of comparing myself to others, but I often need to remind myself that it’s not a competition, and I should focus on sharing my unique perspective and be my authentic self.  I feel like to grow an authentic following, you need to be real, relatable, and come from a service perspective.  I like to serve my followers by showing them cute and affordable fashion, makeup that is worth buying and how to put it on, an amazing restaurant they need to try, or a place they should visit.  If you want to share your passions, come from a point of service, and do it because you like to, not because you want followers or to be better than someone else.

Now if you’re thinking, “This girl is in no position to give advice, she is not a successful blogger, she barely has any followers,” then you’re absolutely right.  However, I know the kind of person I am, and the kind of blogger I want to be, and trying to be better than my “competition” and thinking everything revolves around money is not it.

It’s not all about looking pretty and having amazing outfits everyday.  It’s not all about showing the best and most fun parts of your life and having an aesthetically pleasing and perfectly filtered Instagram feed.  That stuff is fine and fun don’t get me wrong, but I also want to always maintain my real life, and share my down to earth self with people.  Whether I have 5 followers or 50K.  Yes, I will always want to share my amazing meal, or my cute new shoes, or my favorite foundation with you, but please know that my ultimate goal is to help, share, and inspire through my blog, Instagram, and YouTube, not to be better than other bloggers.

A quote from “Uninvited” by Lysa TerKeurst: “There is an abundant need in this world for your exact brand of beautiful.”

Ok, rant over lol.

Must Watch Netflix Shows and Movies

Hi everyone!  It’s been a minute since I’ve written a blog post.  I am a teacher and it’s back to school season!  I have been really sick the past few days so I have been watching way too much Netflix and wanted to share with you some must watch shows and movies!  I don’t know about you, but sometimes I go on Netflix and find myself scrolling around for an hour trying to decide what to watch, and just end up putting on The Office for the 337th time.  I hope this helps you decide the next time you’re in the mood to binge watch Netflix (me almost all of the time lol).

Dark Tourist-Ok so this show I really loved.  It’s about different places around the world that people travel to that are known for death and tragedy.  It’s really interesting and the host is really funny and keeps it somewhat light.

I am a Killer-As you will probably tell after reading this list, I kinda like shows about serial killers and murder mysteries lol…I like this one because they are interviewing the murderer from prison.

Nailed It-Probably the most light-hearted on my list lol, this show is about people who try to recreate perfect looking desserts and it’s super funny.

The Staircase-Murder trial documentary about a famous author.

The People v. O.J.-No need to explain.

Spotlight-This movie is about a group of newspaper writers who are investigating a scandal in the Catholic Church.

The Crown-If you don’t care about the royal family and the hidden and unknown drama about them, you won’t like this lol.

Se7en- Movie where Brad Pitt investigates a serial killer.

Long Shot-A man was put in prison for a murder her didn’t commit. This shows him trying to clear his name.

These are shows and movies that I have watched fairly recently.  Some of my classic favorites you need to watch if you haven’t are: Criminal Minds, Stranger Things, The Office, Parks and Rec, Friends, Breaking Bad, Gimore Girls, Grey’s Anatomy, Making a Murderer, Gossip Girl, and probably some more lol (can you tell I love watching Netflix)?

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their Sunday!

The best drugstore beauty products

Hi friends!  I wanted to share a few of my favorite beauty products that come from the drug store.  I am a makeup and beauty lover, and I believe there are some things that you need to get from Sephora or higher end places, but there are so many products that I use every single day that you can get from Target or the drug store!

Foundation: Loreal Infallible Pro Matte Foundation, Loreal True Match Foundation, Almay Healthy Glow Foundation, Loreal Infallible Setting Spray

The pro matte foundation is perfect to wear for events or whenever you need your makeup to last for a long time.  I do not have oily skin, but I like to use this for when I need my face to stay put.  If you have oily skin, this would be a great everyday foundation for you. The true match is a perfect everyday foundation for me.  It feels super lightweight, and blurs imperfections, and has sunscreen.  I love the Almay healthy glow because it has nice coverage, lasts a long time, and I can use it when I have a spray tan so my face matches my body.  The Loreal setting spray takes away the powdery look and helps your makeup last and last.

Concealer: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer, Loreal Infallible Pro Glow Concealer, Maybelline Master Conceal by Face Studio Concealer

The instant age rewind is super hydrating and has great coverage.  It is also super easy to apply and blend.  The pro glow is also hydrating and gives a nice airbrushed look to the under eye area.  The master conceal is the fullest coverage drug store concealer I have ever used.  It is great for under the eyes, blemishes, or even scars.

Powder/Bronzer: Maybelline Master Fix Loose Powder, Rimmel Natural Bronzer

I love this setting powder because it does not leave a white cast on my face, but sets all my makeup nicely.  The bronzer is a nice color and very natural looking and warms up my complexion.

Mascara, Eyeliner, Brows: Maybelline Big Shot Mascara, Loreal Voluminous Million Lashes Excess, Loreal Voluminous Mascara, NYC Liquid Eyeliner, NYX Micro Brow Pencil

I use all of these mascaras together because I am just extra like that lol.  These are all amazing.  I only get my mascara from the drug store because I have found that it is just as good, if not better than any high end one I have tried.  The liquid eyeliner is super easy to use to do winged eyeliner.  The brow pencil has a tiny tip so it looks very natural and is easy to work with.

Makeup Remover/ Dry Shmpoo: Neutrogena Makeup Remover Towelettes, Psssst! Instant Dry Shampoo

These makeup wipes are a dream.  They take all of my makeup off super easily.  The dry shampoo smells great, and doesn’t weigh my hair down.  All of these products are affordable and great quality.  Why spend so much when you don’t need to am I right?!

I hope you enjoyed this post!  Thank you for reading!  I will talk to you all soon!

What happened when I did a juice cleanse

So after eating about 27 handfuls of peanut m&m’s, too many plates of chips and dip, and countless trips to the dessert table, I was feeling especially bloated and sluggish after Super Bowl Sunday.  I decided it would be good to detox my body and do a 1 day cleanse.

I went to Pressed Juicery and got the Cleanse 1- 1 day cleanse.  They have three different levels of cleanses in 1,2, and 3 day options.  The Cleanse 1 was the highest calorie option that was suggested for people new to cleansing.  It came with 6 juices as well as a chlorophyll water to drink throughout the day, and an aloe vera water to drink before bed.  The juices were numbered 1-6 and they told me to have a juice every 2 hours.  The first drink I had when I woke up was the vanilla almond.  It was pretty good.  It tasted like almond milk and definitely filled me up and kept me going until it was time to drink another.

The next juice was the greens 2 and this one tasted pretty good as well.  After drinking this juice I was feeling refreshed and had a good amount of energy considering I didn’t have any coffee that morning.

A couple hours after the green juice I was starting to feel pretty hungry.  The next one was the roots 2.  I loved this one because it had carrot in it so it was sweet.  This one kept me satisfied for a while.

The fourth juice was my absolute favorite.  It was the citrus 2 and it had pineapple in it so it was super sweet and refreshing.

The next one I had around 5:30 pm so it was around the time I usually eat dinner so I was feeling pretty hungry.  This one was the greens 3 and was my least favorite.  I like green juices but this one was bitter and had a lot of celery which I don’t love.

I was actually really surprised that I felt as good and as satisfied as I did throughout the day and made it without hurting anyone lol.  But after the fifth juice at around 7 pm I got very sick.  I got a horrible migraine on the right side of my head, I felt nauseous, I was shaking, and I threw up.  It was awful.  Now I don’t know if this was my body detoxing or telling me that I can’t handle not eating all day.  I felt so sick that I couldn’t drink the last juice, which was chocolate almond.  All I could do was take Advil and go to bed.  I did try it the next morning and it was very good, and would have been a nice treat to satisfy my sweet tooth.

The chlorophyll and aloe water were kinda weird.  They tasted like water with a hint of I don’t know what, something weird lol they were drinkable.

The weirdest part was when I woke up the next morning, I felt amazing.  I didn’t snooze my alarm, I had energy which is rare, and my stomach was not bloated and felt good.  With all of that said, will I be cleansing regularly?  Probably not.  The way my body reacted at the end of the day was not worth it.  I will stick with Pressed Juicery’s delicious freeze as a treat! 🙂

What I got for Christmas

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with you family and friends!  I enjoyed relaxing with my family and eating way too much!  I’ve had this week off from work so it has been so nice being able to relax.  I wanted to share what I got for Christmas!  I got so spoiled this year.  My husband went way overboard even though we agreed on a spending limit…lol.

I will start with a gift that I won in one of those gift games where you can steal.  I stole this gift and I am so glad nobody stole it back! It is a pour over coffee maker and I love it!  Anything that involves coffee is exciting for me, so I was super excited to get this.

Next is this super cute Starbucks cup that my husband actually got from the gift game, but we all know who it really belong to lol.  I love the black and how tall this cup is!  It also is insulated so it keeps hot drinks hot and cold drink cold.  Thanks honey!  🙂

Next is a Little Mermaid mug that is just so cute!  I am a mug lover so I was very excited when I opened this one.  This was one of a few Disney gifts that my husband got for me.  I saw it one night at Disneyland and he went back without me and surprised me with it on Christmas and it is definitely one of my favorite mugs!

Next are a few clothing items.  My parents got me this really nice black and white Calvin Klein turtle neck that I love!  It looks chic and put together and is soft and comfortable.

Next is a Monsters University spirit jersey and I just about screamed when I opened it.  I have been wanting a Disney spirit jersey for so long to wear to Disneyland and I didn’t even know they made the Monsters U ones!  One of my favorite Disney movies!  I can’t wait to sport this the next time we go to Disney!

When I opened this next gift I was so surprised.  Another spirit jersey?!  Yes!  This fuzzy grey one is the coziest, warmest, most amazing thing I have ever put on my body lol.  I can’t wait to wear it!  Ok, I already have, almost everyday since Christmas!!  Thank you Kohly!!!

The next few gifts are beauty related that I have been using and loving everyday!  First is this Kopari Coconut Multi tasking kit.  My brother in law Jesse was my secret Santa and he got this for me, per my recommendation haha.  I really wanted this because I used the coconut melt once before and absolutely loved it, and right now with how dry the weather is, I want all the hydration!  This set comes with their original coconut melt, which is organic, unrefined pure coconut oil that can be used for so many things!  My favorite way to use it is under my eyes and to moisturize my whole body.  The next product inside is the sheer oil, which is a lightweight face oil.  I love this to remove my makeup or to put on the ends of my hair.  Next is the coconut body glow that is just so beautiful!  I love to be glowy and radiant!  This is so nice to put on my arms, chest, and legs when at the beach or going out.  It gives me golden goddess vibes!  I can’t wait to bring it with me to Hawaii and glow to the heavens!  The last product is the coconut balm which is an intensive moisturizing balm that is amazing for super dry or cracked skin.  I use this on my hands when they are dry and flaky and on my heels to keep them soft.  All of these products are great for keeping the skin moisturized and healthy looking!

He also got me this Too Faced set that comes with their amazing eyeshadow primer and my favorite mascara!  Thanks Jesse!

Next is a gift from my sister Marissa that I am so excited about!  I have been wanting the Tom Ford Soleil Blanc perfume for like 3 years, but I just can”t get myself to pay over $300 for perfume.  I did not know that they made a way less expensive body spray at Nordstrom!  My sweet sister who works there got this for me and now I can finally have that intoxicating scent that I love!  It smells like a sweet summer dream and it is my favorite scent of all time.  Thanks sis!

Next is something that was in my stocking and it’s an adorable mini lip set from Stila.  It comes with three mini sizes of their stay all day liquid lipsticks.  All of these colors are so good!  Not even one is weird or unwearable which often happens with sets haha.  It comes with a red, a nude, and a shimmery pinky nude.  Love this set!

Next is a set of bath bombs from my mother in law that I am so excited to use when we go to Carmel for the weekend and will have a tub that I will actually fit in lol.  Thanks Kel!

This next gift is from my mom and I have already used up half of the bottle because I am lazy and hate washing my hair but also because it is so nice!  It is the Oribe gold dry shampoo.  It doesn’t leave a white cast or make my hair feel heavy and it gives a lot of volume!  I will definitely be buying this for myself when I run out!

The next two things are from Kohl and I was SO excited to get.  They are both from the Kylie Cosmetics holiday collection.  First is the nice eyeshadow palette that was a surprise and it is so pretty!  These shadows are so nice and the colors are beautiful.  You can never have enough eyeshadow palettes!

The next item I asked for specifically, like left my laptop open to the website so Kohl could get me this right when it launched before it sold out lol and I am so glad I did!  The wet set is the most amazing highlighter I have ever used!  It feels like gel to the touch and looks like wet skin when you apply it.  This is best applied with your fingers because of the unique texture.  This highlighter is stunning and I have gotten so many compliments on my skin whenever I wear it.  I can’t wait to glow all year long!  Thanks babe!

Last but certainly not least is a Kate Spade bag from my mom.  I have been wanting a simple black bag for so long and this one is perfect!  It is so beautiful and classic and I feel so spoiled and grateful for receiving this.  This will go with every outfit!  Thank you mamma!

I am so grateful for all of the gifts I received, but I am more blessed to have my family, my heath, and my Savior this Christmas season.  I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and have a great time ringing in the New Year this weekend!  Talk to you soon!
